The brief is for a new 3 bed holiday home @ circa 150sqm including lower level double garage. The site on a ridge line overlooking the inlet estuary to north-west and views north-east beyond to Mount Paku. The existing access road runs to the east of the site and privacy to be considered. The prevailing wind is from the south west.

Design Outcomes

The design responds to the site and brief with the following features:

Site layout to maximise solar orientation and views to the inlet and Mount Paku. Staggered plan to open up the façade and turn its back on the prevailing SW wind

Large expansive north facing deck with sun shading/ louvres and covered outdoor room with screening to provide privacy from the road and shelter from the prevailing wind.

Indoor/ outdoor flow for living spaces to external deck and outdoor room

Minimalist modern pavilion form with extensive glazing

Open plan living/dining/kitchen, stacked bi-folds to open-up to deck and outdoor room with a servery from the kitchen

Private wing for master with ensuite and walk-in-robe, two bedrooms and bathroom

araging to lower level on existing platform with vehicle access, access with internal stair and double height void.

Vertical cedar Hermpac cladding, quality matt black joinery and metal standing seam roof. Simple robust material sand detailing - in keeping with the modern aesthetic and rural character
